Meliza Rosado —

Visual Artist & Photographer

Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, in 1983, Meliza Rosado discovered her passion for photography at just seventeen, during her first course at the School of Fine Arts in Cayey. What began as curiosity quickly grew into a lifelong dedication to the art of visual storytelling.

After graduating from Benjamin Harrison Vocational High School, she pursued an Associate Degree in Graphic Arts at the Technological Institute of San Juan, where she also took her first black-and-white film photography and darkroom classes. It was there she developed her first roll of film — an experience that deepened her love for photography and solidified her creative path.

Eager to expand her artistic knowledge, Meliza continued her studies at the School of  Plastic Arts and Design of Puerto Rico, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Image and Design. Immersed in both traditional and digital art forms, she explored printmaking, sculpture, painting, and manual photography. Her thesis, “The Dialogue of a Child with Autism Through Photography,” combined pedagogy, psychology, and art — reflecting her belief in photography as a bridge between emotion, communication, and healing.

In 2010, she began her Master of Arts in Photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. There, she explored multiple branches of photography — from studio and landscape to documentary work — refining her craft and deepening her artistic voice. Her time in San Francisco, Maui, and later Puerto Rico shaped her connection between nature, art, and well-being.

Her MA project, Cycle,” was a deeply personal and autobiographical exploration inspired by her own experiences with endometriosis and the cycles of pain, resilience, and transformation.

Today, Meliza’s work focuses on portraiture in natural landscapes, where she blends artistic composition with emotional storytelling. Her ability to connect authentically with her subjects allows her to capture images that reflect both inner and outer beauty.

With a background rooted in art and design, and a spirit shaped by perseverance and purpose, Meliza Rosado continues to create work that honors both the art of seeing and the art of being.
